Mental Health and Substance Abuse Centers of Southern Oklahoma, located at 111 E. 12th St., has been providing services for the Ada area since the 1950s. "We provide behavioral health services, counseling - individual and group, rehab - individual and group. We have a medication clinic which is where we have a psychiatrist that comes in and provides psychotropic medication for those who need them. Our psychiatric rehabilitation program is a day program from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. This program enables individuals to learn new living and social skills," said Terry Goodwin, executive director of MHSACSO.MHSACSO is a non-profit agency that provides mental health care and chemical dependency treatment to nine counties in South Central Oklahoma. Other services include screening and assessment, emergency crisis intervention, outpatient treatment, inpatient treatment, case management, day treatment, children/adolescent programs, aging programs, chemical dependency treatment, consultation, education, and prevention.

VA announces money for mental health facility in Walla Walla
WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs plans to build a residential rehabilitation facility at the Walla Walla VA Medical Center. The facility will focus on mental health care for veterans. Plans call for the 22,000-square-foot facility to have 36 beds encompassing various levels of mental health care. The VA said Tuesday that details about the estimated $6.7 million facility are still being developed. .

The National Housing Federation, which represents England's housing associations, says that a 'work or lose your home' policy for social housing tenants would be unfair and impossible to enforce. Chief executive of the National Housing Federation David Orr said: "Efforts to help social housing tenants into work are very welcome. But threatening tenants with the loss of their home is absolutely the wrong way to go about it. "Such a policy would be unfair and impossible to enforce. Many of the jobs open to people, especially at the lower skills end, are insecure or temporary. Also, people with health problems, such as mental health issues may find there are periods when they cannot keep up their job. "Instead of taking a punitive approach, the Government should build upon the successful employment schemes already being run by housing associations around the country.

The new state agency created to restore and protect Puget Sound needs your help to return a beloved, complex body of water to robust health. Puget Sound Partnership is holding an opening series of workshops in nine communities to acquaint the public with the current condition of the Sound and identify the greatest threats to it.Information collected will be used to help develop an action agenda to be presented next fall to Gov. Christine Gregoire. A fundamental challenge for David Dicks, executive director of the Partnership, is convincing Puget Sound residents there is a problem. The scenic beauty of the Sound belies deeper, persistent problems. An updated report, State of the Sound 2007, describes the current condition "to be one of decline, with continuing harms to the clean water, abundant habitat and intact natural processes that are the foundations of a healthy environment." All of us have to better understand the problem before we see our own role in helping solve what the report portrays as a "silent crisis." Restoring Puget Sound means rethinking some of how we live, work and play along its shores and near the waterways that feed into it.
