Men's Health ranks Cleveland one of least caffeinated cities

We've taken our lumps in Cleveland. Just not in our coffee.

Men's Health magazine, ranking the most-caffeinated cities in the country, placed Cleveland 83rd, near the bottom of its list of 100, in the March issue that just hit newsstands.

No wonder the economy here has been stuck in a yawn. No wonder winter is about as exciting as a grande decaf soy latte. No wonder . . . wait a minute. We're not overcaffeinated? This is actually a good thing, isn't it?

Do we really want java jitters? Can you imagine Mikey from Regency Windows after a shot of espresso? LeBron driving on I-71 after a triple macchiato? A baseball team that doesn't fall asleep after taking a 3-1 lead in the American League Championship Series? Wait, scratch the last one. We could have used Mr.

Fundraiser for nature-based kids program will feature noted musician

Kids and Creeks, a Chico nonprofit that works with schools to promote science education and watershed health, is hosting a fundraiser tonight at the El Rey Theatre.

The event is sold out, due in part by an appearance from singer-songwriter Brett Dennen, who was named one of Rolling Stone magazine's "10 Artists To Watch" in its November issue.

Kids and Creeks, which says it has provided more than 10,000 hours of community service and hosted field trips for more than 7,000 kids from 60 elementary school classes, ties its efforts into educational curriculum.

"Working with some of the standard base curriculum (schools) have to meet, we bring elementary-aged students into the field," Kids and Creeks President Mark Lynch said Friday. "We meet the requirements of the state standards for teaching by doing it experientially.

She will be heading to New York early next week to compete for a $15,000 dollar Wilhelmina modeling contract and other prizes valued at $90,000 dollars.

Election 2008

They are the cowboy variety who don't like government telling them what to do with their land or their guns or their money. It's the home state of Dick Cheney and, save for a small liberal pocket in Jackson Hole, he's a statewide hero.

So it's even more surprising to think that some tried-and-true Wyoming Republicans are considering voting for Democrats this year. It gets down to land -- apparently some ranchers haven't been to pleased about how big energy companies have been digging up their acreage in search of natural resources to help meet soaring demand. An editorial cartoonist from the Seattle PI drew up this cartoon that sums up this new political tension in Wyoming. Thought I'd pass it along for your viewing pleasure.

POST A MESSAGE

What have you learned since the Sept. 11 attacks five years ago? The mass murder of 2,996 innocent people on American soil forced open my eyes to the Islamic holy war against the West, freedom and modernity. The battle has raged not for years or decades, but for centuries -- well before the Crusades began.

The indelible sight of workers plunging from the Twin Towers -- head first, feet first, solo, hand-in-hand -- roused me from slumber. The photos of children who were incinerated on United Airlines Flight 175 and American Airlines Flight 77 compelled me to start paying attention to the beliefs, goals, language and lies of those who would gladly kill my children the same way. The United Airlines Flight 93 hijackers' final exclamation as they drove the plane into the ground is a Muslim warrior leitmotif I will never again ignore: "Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!"

So, how much do you know? Take a post-9/11 pop quiz.
